Were You Chasing Oprah too?

2011 will be the end of an era or epoch shaped by the "Oprah Winfrey Talk Show". As a teenager on the broadcast team in school, I would run home to watch and emulate Oprah.  Being so "unique" in my 20's, I listed Oprah Winfrey as my "role model" winning a Plus Size Model Magazine Contest. After turning the pages of beautiful ladies, there appeared to be a trend especially amongst minority women. Needless to say, my plight to be "unique" appeared on almost every page.

2009 has ended with an increase in African American women talk show hosts; the Inauguration of our first African American President challenging those 1980's race debates on the Oprah Show; and the modern day "Color Purple" movie appears to be "Precious". The Big "O" has truly come full circle. This non-fiction/fiction blog/story is through the eyes of Esperanza, where we see a journey and world beyond girlhood dreams and some nightmares. Based on true accounts and stories, it makes one ask the question "Were you Chasing Oprah too?"
